I have been struggling to figure out a way to best serve our HOA in regards to providing timely information. First, I set up the Uplands blog, but that doesn't allow anyone to just start a topic without going through me. I don't mind, but I wouldn't want to have to go through someone to get a topic started. Second, I signed us up for the Neighborhood Watch forum with the Sheriff. That's a good resource, but limited in scope and involves other nearby areas. I've also set up this message board forum to allow the free exchange of ideas. It's wonderful to see so many people getting involved in the neighborhood issues. But these forums are passive. If something happens you have to go to the forum to find out about the event. Having worked safety and security for several years, I know passive notifications are not enough.
A discussion this morning with a fellow Uplander stimulated me to thinking about setting up a "subscription" email notification. People could notify me of safety or security issues, and I would email only those in the safety and security group. Examples: info about last year's fire, the fellow selling a product from a shaky company in our neighborhood a few moths ago, attempts to break into homes or cars, that sort of thing. I would include notifying folks when I see something posted on the Sheriff's board so that you wouldn't have to take time just to learn there is nothing new.
Does a subscription safety & security notification email group sound worthwhile, or is it just another example of me flailing to find something that works for the majority of us?
Any thoughts?
By the way - KUDUs to you all for taking the time to get involved and/or speaking up.
